Drawing #2: Bougie

from $4,600.00

22.5in x 22.5in / 57.15cm x 57.15m - unframed

Graphite on Arches Natural White Watercolor Paper - Hot Press, 140lb.

-

A second in the series, "Drawing #2: Bougie" presents the familiar icon—a balloon dog— this time transformed into an extravagant crystallized sculpture. This transformation serves as a metaphorical representation of the pursuit of material possessions and societal ideals of luxury and refinement. However, upon closer inspection, the unexpected subject matter emerges—a crystallized balloon dog in the act of defecating, subverting the notions of elegance and undermining the shallow pursuit of material wealth.

Through this artwork, I aim to challenge the inherent contradictions present within our society's obsession with status symbols and materialism. The juxtaposition of opulent crystal and bodily waste invites viewers to question the true value and meaning of luxury. It is a playful yet ironic commentary on the superficiality of consumer culture and the transient nature of material possessions.

Through this drawing, I aim to prompt discussions surrounding consumer culture, societal expectations, and the pursuit of authenticity. It is an artistic statement that seeks to disrupt conventional notions and provoke contemplation, encouraging viewers to redefine their own definitions of value and fulfillment in a world dominated by consumerism.
